Mentor commitments
Service with integrity.
Guidance with care.
Read these commitments before applying to become a Savannah mentor.
Voluntary service
Mentorship is wholly voluntary. It does not earn salary, payment, points or other financial rewards and creates no entitlement to compensation. Any separately agreed assistance must be confirmed by the Institute and is not a promise of payment for mentorship.
Preparation and accountability
Complete the Institute’s review, training and approval before leading a group. Follow its programme guidance, maintain necessary records and cooperate with supervision, monitoring and coordination.
Conduct and example
Model respect, responsibility and integrity. Do not promote drug use, alcohol misuse, tobacco use, coercion, harassment or harmful sexual behaviour. Do not attend or lead programme activities while intoxicated. Keep mentorship activities free from drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
Boundaries and safeguarding
Do not exploit participants financially, emotionally or sexually. Do not pursue sexual or romantic relationships with your mentees. Follow approved meeting and communication arrangements, including guardian involvement for minors. Do not arrange secret meetings or ask participants to keep harmful conduct hidden.
Privacy and concerns
Share participant details only with authorised people who need them. Protect photographs and personal stories, and follow consent requirements. Report safeguarding concerns promptly to the responsible Institute team; do not promise secrecy where someone may be at risk.
Ongoing commitment
Accept guidance and corrective action. A mentor or group may be paused or removed from programme duties when necessary. Further training, screening and written agreements may be required before assignment.
